Winners in the 29th annual Areawide Exhibit of the On My Own Time Competition were announced May 25, 2007 at a reception in City Hall gallery.

On My Own Time was co-sponsored this year by North Country Arts Center together with Andritz, Inc. Arrow Financial Group, Finch, Pruyn & Co., The Fort Miller Group, The Glen at Hiland Meadows, Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls Senior Center, Glens Falls YMCA, Queensbury Seniors and Sperry Advertising. The program included competition in Art, Photography, Creative Crafts and Textiles.

The exhibit was judged by Paul Chapman, a well-known local artist and teacher who has exhibited throughout the area.

Mr. Chapman selected an acrylic and oil painting as the Best of Show. The painting titled “Devils in the Details” was by Shenan Tucker of Sperry Advertising. Mr. Tucker received a Fifty dollar check from NCAC.

First place in Art was awarded to Helen Anello of The Glen at Hiland Meadows for her watercolor “Trees on a Snowy Hill”. Brian Haynes of The Fort Miller Group received the first place award in Photography for his black and white photograph "Bucky”.

In Creative Crafts, Kathleen Flanagan of the Glens Falls YMCA was awarded first place for her Necklace created from a silver spoon, beads and wire. Anee Marie Conboy, also from the YMCA was honored with first place in Textiles for her knit/felted YOGA Mat. Each of the first place winners was awarded a check from NCAC.

Second place winners included Tony Salvarezza of Glens Falls Hospital in Art, Christopher Messitt of Glens Falls Hospital in Photography, Russell Clark of Finch Pruyn in Creative Crafts and Leslie Lant of Sperry Advertising in Textiles.

Third place in Art was awarded to Jean Donnelly of Glens Falls Senior Citizens; third place in Photography was awarded to Carl Luhrmann of Andritz, Inc.; third place in Textiles was awarded to Jane Tougas of Arrow Financial and third place in Crafts was awarded to Lois Lattimore of Glens Falls Seniors.

Honorable mention awards were made to Linda Pecor Morey of Queensbury Seniors and Anthony Cosentino of Sperry Advertising.

It was a special treat to have Linda Pecor Morley enter the show and to award her a prize. Linda was the person who brought the OMOT program to Glens Falls in 1978. She was recognized at the Awards Ceremony and spoke briefly to the assembled artists and guests. Those of us from NCAC were in turn gratified when she told everyone that she had “handpicked North Country Arts Center” to hand the program over to because she “knew they would do a great job and keep the program going”. Well we have, and many were heard to say that this exhibition, the 29th annual since the programs inception, was “the Best Yet”.
