Presidents Message
Spring 2010

Dear members,

This spring we are getting ready to bring our Feeder Canal Art Project to the community as a month long program called “Canal Mania”. Included in this newsletter you will find a schedule of events at Crandall Public Library. We start off with music and song by George Ward, famed folksinger. We continue our journey on the canalway with a presentation about the 75 miles of murals on the Erie Canal by Mark DeCracker from Rome, NY. Mark has been spearheading a “Mural Mania” for several years with great success. There will be a display of art sketches in the gallery, a movie night, preschool activities with story time and a presentation of the 2009 Feeder Canal project.

“Canal Mania” started last year with students from local high schools. They were asked to come up with interesting concepts for art installations on the Feeder Canal. This is planned to become a part of a 254-mile long art gallery called “Art Walks On Water.” Many canal groups and enthusiasts have been working on ideas that have grown into Art installations for canal communities across New York State. Let us use our talents here in Glens Falls to install a work of art on the Feeder.

Our newest Board members have already begun a quest for avenues to display membership art. Fred Holman has been working on bringing NCAC to the North Country. Margaret Klick has taken over the job of Art on Tour as the schedule for exhibits at City Hall Gallery fills. There is a member show scheduled for the month of May and a new theme: Rhyme and Reason. The title of your work must rhyme. Jon Segan took over the responsibility of Treasurer. Beverly Saunders and Kate Austin, besides their regular Shirt Factory activities, are busy with Linda North planning Colors of Fall. And Diane Collins, our new Vice President is also Membership Chair. We are still looking for a Secretary. So if you want to volunteer, join us at 6 Pine Street Gallery the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM. If you need to contact me, my number is 747-7740.

Respectfully,
Linda Buerkley,
President NCAC 2010
