Fred Holman is an oil painter from Brant Lake. He and his wife Karen moved to the area three years ago after 35 years as a Landscape Architect and Planner. Fred joined to organization two years ago and quickly became involved, most recently helping to open the Art in Chestertown Gallery.

Retired New York State Art teacher who found that traveling about with my digital camera was a way not to stay at home and do housework. After all, I am retired. The photographs inspire many other avenues, such as printmaking, poetry, painting and drawing. As an educator, I spent thirty-six years discussing the principles and elements of design. So when I work on any piece I have a wealth of information to guide me. The past ten years since retirement I have exhibited in many shows and won a few awards along the way and enjoyed staying involved with "The Arts". Three years I co-owned a gallery in Schuylerville and met a lot of artists whose work ethic I admired. I've been a member of the NCAC Board for over ten years and alas my home needs a good sorting.

I live with my son in Fort Edward, where I have my workshop and studio. I grew up in Queensbury and graduated from Glens Fall High school where I somehow managed to major in art. From there I went to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn where I received a BFA majoring in painting. After returning to Glens Falls, I found myself unable to do artwork for years and years. I did keep busy making things, rock gardens and pools, natural and mechanical history displays, toys and models. Once when very young, my daughter sat watching me making something or other, suddenly her face brightened and she exclaimed, "Daddy, you're just like Geppetto!" (Disney's Pinocchio was and might still be our favorite movie.) I guess that moment will top the list whenever I have to submit an artist’s resume. 4 years ago I started to do artwork again. The skills and tools acquired making and fixing things, have been important as my work combines painting with assemblage. 3 years ago I joined the NCAC, I feel it is important for artists to communicate with each other. What we do is so personal that it becomes too easy to let shyness lead to isolation.

I live and work with my wife, Anne, in Glens Falls, New York. Though not a visual artist I've had experience in the musical arts in both a performance and managerial capacity. Working with my university's Student Government Association gave me the opportunity to serve first as Publicity Chair of on-campus activities and ultimately as the manager of its nightclub. I am pleased to again play a part in bringing the arts to the community and affording artists the chance to have their work seen.

I'm a wife to a wonderful man and mother of six beautiful children. Most of my passion and inspiration come from my family and our experiences. Art is a way for me to express the depth of my love for my children and for life. Through art we are given the ability to touch others lives by sharing common experiences. As a new board member of North Country Art Center I strive to bring new ideas and encourage growth. Also to support my fellow board members in their ideas, so that together we can inpact our community for the better. For this coming summer I am spearheading a Fund raising Gala for June 14th. This will be a wonderful night of celebration of all the arts in an effort to raise money to further grow the organization to accomplish our goals.

A little llama farm in Chestertown is home to me. My art reflects the wonder & beauty of the natural world. I work in mediums of acrylic on wood, murals, writing, illustrating and fiber art. I look forward to serving on the NCAC Board and doing all I can to support the arts and artists in the area.
